Khoi is a name of Vietnamese origin, derived from the word "khói" which means "smoke". The name is believed to have been popularized by the Vietnamese poet Nguyen Du in his epic poem "The Tale of Kieu", where Khoi is one of the main characters.
According to legend, Khoi was originally a boy who lived near a river. One day, he saved a woman from drowning in the river and married her afterwards. However, their happiness did not last long as they were separated by war. Years later, Khoi died heroically in battle while trying to protect his village.
