Meaning, origin, history
Stalin is a male given name of Georgian origin. It means "man of steel" in Georgian language. The name was borne by the Soviet leader Joseph Stalin (1878-1953), whose real name was Ioseb Besarioni Jughashvili. He adopted the pseudonym Stalin, which became his most widely known name, around 1912. Due to its association with the controversial figure of Joseph Stalin, the name has been largely discontinued and is now very rare.
